The Education Foundation 5 Year report and plan
Celebrating education across Britain. Ambitious about our future. Inspiring education, policy and business leaders about what can be achieved. These are the hallmarks of The Education Foundation’s work for the past five years and into the future. Education in Britain is too precious to be left to vested interests and to narrow debate. Education in the UK is at a crossroads. Our systems are often fragile and framed by old arguments that focus on division rather than consensus and collaboration. Too much energy is wasted that takes critical focus away from solving major challenges.
This Education Foundation 5 year report and plan shares some of the key achievements of the Education Foundation’s work over the past five years, information and quotes about our impact and summary plans for the future.
Future Doncaster: Connecting education & employment for skills, growth & young people
The Education Foundation were commissioned by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, to deliver a major programme of work, including events, consultation with educators, employers and council leaders. The Future Doncaster report launched in 2016 sets out imaginative and creative ways to mobilise all sectors and local assets to support school improvement. The Council are already implementing one of the recommendations, to create an Education Commission to explore more radical ways of leading education change across the town and region.
Computing Guide for senior leaders
The Education Foundation and partners UKIE were commissioned by the Mayor of London’s education team to research and write a guide to the new computing curriculum aimed at London school leaders. The Computing Guide and online toolkit includes the latest information from the DfE and OfSTED as well as from leading practitioners about how to implement the new computing curriculum and make the most of the opportunity across the school. The Computing Guide was launched at the Mayor of London’s Education Conference in November 2015 to an audience of leading educators and policy makers from across the city.
Edtech: London Capital for Learning Technology
Edtech UK (our new strategic body) partnered with London & Partners and the Mayor of London to research and produce the Edtech: London Capital for Learning Technology report to share a big picture view of the potential of the education technology market for startups, scaleups, companies and for economic growth. The report was published at the launch event of Edtech UK at City Hall in October 2015 where we gathered 150 of the top education, technology and policy leaders together including Number 10 Downing Street, Department for Education, UKTI, BIS, Innovate UK and Tech City UK. London Economic Partnership: Digital Skills Research
The Education Foundation and partners UKIE were commissioned by the Mayor of London and the London Enterprise Panel to research, map and and audit Digital Skills provision across the city and make recommendations that would feed into the creation of the Mayor of London’s new Digital Talent Fund. The report was the result of extensive consultation with industry, policy and education leaders from across the city as well as work with the Greater London Authority.
Building a lattice of school leadership
The Education Foundation partnered with the Consortium for Policy Research in Education and the Washington DC education think tank the Thomas B Fordham Institute to research, develop and produce the Lattice of Leadership report to share lessons and learning from England’s school leadership system for US policy makers and leaders. The report was published at a seminar in Washington DC in November 2014 with an invited group of UK school leaders and US education leadership organisations and policy makers and also included the development of a video sharing the perspectives of leaders on evolving leadership models.
Digital Colleges: the journey so far
The Education Foundation in partnership with Digital Business Britain, IBM and the Association of Colleges (AoC) have produced a new report on the future of the digital agenda within the Further education and skills (FES) sector. A copy of the report is available to download HERE and was launched on the 18th November 2014 in Birmingham at the AoC National Conference by Gill Clipson, Deputy CEO, AoC and Penny Power OBE, Chair, Digital Business Britain & CEO, Digital Youth Academy and a gathering of top further education principals and leaders. The report was co-authored by Ian Fordham, Co-founder and Nathan Martin, Associate Director, The Education Foundation to identify the range of ways in which digital is transforming Colleges across their provision and an emerging roadmap for the future.
Technology in Education: a system view
The Education Foundation in partnership with European Electronique and Samsung have produced a new report on the future of technology and education. A copy of the report is available to download HERE and was launched on the 17th June in London by Matthew Hancock MP, Minister of Skills, Department of Education; Graham Stuart MP, Chair, Education Select Committee; Sir Dan Moynihan, CEO, Harris Federation and a gathering of top ed and tech leaders. The report was written with the contribution of an expert group, in response to a request from Department for Education to identify emerging solutions to the barriers of using technology for improved learning in schools. The report was co-authored by James Penny, European Electronique & Ian Fordham & Ty Goddard, Co-founders, The Education Foundation.
Facebook Guide for Educators
The Education Foundation was commissioned by global technology company Facebook to produce the UK’s first guide to the use of the platform for teaching and learning. Following intensive work with two leading UK schools in 2013- London Nautical and Wellington College – and this year a growing number of schools, colleges and universities – we launched a revised version of the publication at the 2014 Festival of Education. Education Britain: the journey to education reform
Our launch publication: Education Britain: the journey to education reform details the thinking of 35 UK and global education leaders. It shares the visions of thought leaders on the future of education and learning in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The report is now available to download HERE, after its successful launch in Westminster at the House of Lords.
